Although this name is generally considered to have Scottish origins, it is equally likely to be Irish and to derive from O'Leoghain. The son of the descendant "The Warrior". The confusion is compounded in that the name was also found pre 1066 as "De Logan" in Normandy and it is possible that both the Scottish and Irish Logans may have some French ancestry. The Scottish name holders probably derive from the lands of Logan in Ayrshire, John de Logan who held the lands of Crugar in Ayrshire being recorded in 1307 as "an enemy of the King of England".
