MCENTEE Family History
This famous Irish clan surname, recorded in many and varied spellings, descends from the early scholars of Ireland known as the "saoi". The spellings forms include MacGinty, MacEntee, Ginty, Genty and Ginity, but however found the name is an anglicized form of the Gaelic "Mac an tSaoi", or the son of the scholar. Given that the clan were long famous for their territorial and disputes with their neighbours, to some it may suggest that the name was a nickname, and an ironic one at that! What is certain is that for variest reasons not unconnected with song, the clan is well known world wide.Select Audience

Susan Gorst
Hello, I am researching Charles McEntee who arrived in Victoria, Australia on board the "Barrackpore" on 13th February 1853, having departed from London, England in November 1852. He was of Irish birth, and I believe his parents were John McEntee and Anne McDermott. According to the shipping passenger list, Charles was about 11-14 years old when he arrived. I am hoping to find connections to Charles to gather information and possibly photos for a book I am writing on the "Barrackpore" and her 2 voyages to Victoria, Australia - 1852-53 and 1853-54. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanking you in advance, Regards Susan Gorst
Justin Jespersen
Hello. My name's Justin William Jespersen. I am the great grandson of Jean Bucella nee McEntee. I know she moved to America when she was young with her parents, but not much else. I don't even know her parent's name's. So if anyone has any idea of anybody who left with a daughter named Jean from Ireland to America I'd like to know more about this part of my family. So please find me on Facebook and send me a message.
Kevin McEntee
I am the great grandson of James McEntee (McAtee) born about 1839 in County Monaghan. Before 1850 he and his family emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada as part of the Monahan exodus led by Rev. John MacDonald. On PEI he was a farmer and married Catherine Gillis and raised 12 children, 5 sons, 7 daughters. I would truly like to know more about the McEntee's in Co. Monaghan and find possible family members there. If your surname is McEntee, I would enjoy hearing rom you.
