MCGARRY Family History
Recorded in many spellings as shown below, this is a surname of Gaelic origins. However spelt it is one of the y developments of the original pre 10th century 'Mag Fhearadhaigh'. The name translates as 'the son of the descendant of the fearless one', a meaning which no doubt helped to account for its undoubted popularity. It is found in spellings which include MacCarry, McHarry, McGarrie, McGarry, MacAree, M'Garry, Megarry, and in County Monaghan - King!. This latter form is a strange anglicised corruption which resulted from the similarity of the sound 'Mac an Ri', meaning 'the son of king', although there is no logical connection...Select Audience

I'm trying to locate info on my great-great grandmother, Rosetta/Rose McGarry born about 1826 who married Bernard Wade in 1847 in New York. Her death certificate in 1893 indicates she was born in Ireland but sometimes identifies as being from Scotland. She arrived in New York about 1845 and listed her mother's name as "Reilly". I'd like to confirm her native country and county of birth and any additional lineage info possible.
CRAIG RICH
My adopted great-grandfather was a McGarry at birth. He probably is the son of Andrew Mcgarry (son of Michael Cormack McGarry of Roscommon and Brigit Sullivan) and Sophia Flynn.

my family came from nearby Frenchpark, County Roscommon. I have traced my ancestry to my five fifth great-grandfather Odie McGarry and his wife Mary Lavin. Odie was born in or around 1800in the Connaught region of Ireland. His sons last name was spelt McGeary on census records here in the U.S.
Odie maybe John, his grandson was John and nicknamed Odie.
The McGeary spelling goes back to the last name o'Gara and both families were lords of Coolavin that is near Lough Gara around the Sligo, Mayo, and Roscommon border.

My grandfather (1949) was originally from ballaghadreen and is a peter

I am looking for Patrick McGarry born around 1817.
He married Elizabeth Martin. They had tree children while still in Ireland: Elizabeth, Mary , and John
They left during the famine years and settled in Egremont, Cumbria. My great grandfather, Patrick and other siblings were born in England

I would like to know more about my great-great grandfather, Henry McGarry, the last child born to Peter McGarry and Mary Coyle in Brockville, Ontario, Canada October 26, 1857. I will be visiting Ireland on June 7, 2019 for 14 days and I would really like to know more about the McGarry ancestry in Ireland. Thank you for any help you can give me.
