Hello to my fellow Whitson brothers and sisters! My name is Peter Whitson. Since 1996 I have been researching my Whitson ancestors. The first Whitson in my family tree to set foot in North America was Henry Whitson. Henry's origin has puzzled the family for nearly 100 years. We have documentation that he was one of the English settlers of Hempstead on Long Island. The documentation is in the parceling of land from 1647. When the Dutch and English quarreled over that settlement, Henry, his wife Rebecca, and their son Thomas moved east on the island to what is today Huntington, NY. Henry died in Huntington in 1669. 

Fast forward to today. One of Henry's 9th g grandchildren (besides yours truly) is astronaut Peggy Whitson (my 4th cousin). If you are curious about being related to Henry, Peggy, and me, come join in the hunt for Henry's origin AND how he arrived in North America.

Hello fellow Whitsons, my name is Peter Wood Whitson, and I am the 9th g grandson of Henry Whitson/Whisson. Based upon documents stating that Henry was in North America in 1644, I am seeking help finding any information regarding Henry's origin (family oral history says England), his family or how he arrived in North America. Reliable records place him with a group of Englishman, many of whom came from York, in the 'New Netherland' (now the US state of New York) on Long Island in both 1644 and 1647. He died in 1669 in what by then was Huntington (also on Long Island) New York Colony. For over 100 years, family members have searched for clues to Henry's origin without success. Any information would be appreciated.
