McFadden Family History
Recorded in various spellings as shown below, this is a surname of Scottish Highland ancestry, but is now equally well recorded in Ireland and the Isle of Man. It has many spellings including MacFadan, MacFadden, MacFadyen, MacFadzean, MacPhaden, McFadden, and McFfaden, as well as forms without a Mac or Mc prefix at all such as: Faden, Fadon, Fadden, Fadian, Faddian, and even Vaden, the latter spellings being particularly well recorded in County Mayo in Ireland. However spelt it derives from the pre 14th century surname Mac Phaidin, itself from the personal name Paidin, a diminutive of Padraig or Patrick.Select Audience

My 4x great grandfather is Connelly McFadden (1752-1840), who was born in Ireland. His exact birth location is unknown and apparently he immigrated to America soon after birth. My Y-DNA (FamilytreeDNA.com) test results revealed my lineage originated from County Mayo from the Barrett clan. I have built a family tree on Ancestry, but cannot link the connection between McFadden and Barrett. I hit a brick wall in my research. Please contact me if there are any Barrett's on this site who may know anything related to my situation.

Connelly McFadden was born on 3 Mar 1752 in Ireland, exact location is unknown. He died on 31 Jan 1840 and is buried in Georgetown, Brown County, Ohio. Connelly fought in the American Revolution War. He enlisted in Nov 1775, served as a Private in Captain Stephen Bayard's company, Col St. Clair's regiment. Connelly fought in the battle of Monmouth and was discharged in March 1779.

Michael McFadden was born in 1838 in Mayo. His parents were Nicholas McFadden and Mary Jordan.
I have no information about Nicholas. Mary Jordan was born in 1815.
Eliza was Michael's sister. Eliza was born in the early 1840's. Michael and Eliza left Ireland for Massachusetts, USA.
I hope someone knows more than I do. Thank you!

My great great great great grandmother was Mary McFadden. She was born on July 1, 1800, in Donegal. She came to the USA when she was young. I have one record that states her father McFadden was born in 1775. Her husband also immigrated to America. His name was Thomas Powell and was born about 1805. I believe that they did not marry until they were in America, however, I am not sure. My DNA information confirms my Donegal roots. I would appreciate any about my 4Xgreat grandmother. Thank you so much. Kathi

My mother was Bridget McFadden (1935-2003) and her father was William McFadden. Her mother was Mary Arrowsmith. I think my grandfather William (Billy) was born around 1906 and died in 1948 and was from Cork
