Sheridan Family History
This is an Anglicized form of the Old Gaelic name O' Sirideain. The Gaelic prefix "o" indicates "male descendant of", plus the personal nickname Siridean composed of the element "siride" meaning "elf", plus the diminutive suffix "an". In Irish mythology, the elf was usually looked upon as a rather mischievous creature, so we can presume that the first name bearer was a mischief maker. The family originated in County Longford where they held church property. Later they moved to County Cavan - the county in which the name is most prevalent today. The Sheridans distinguished themselves in the field of literature...Select Audience

Sheridan
No famous ones I know of, but I've recently learned my great grandmother was Mary Francis Sheridan (father was Patrick Sheridan and mother Ann McCabe. Mary Francis emigrated to NYC in 1864 at fourteen years of age. I would like to know where in Ireland this family came from - Patrick Sheridan and his daughter, Mary Francis Sheridan. Of course, I'd like to know where the McCabes came from, too, but this is a site for Sheridan. Mary Francis Sheridan married William F. McCabe who had been born in NYC. This is all fascinating to me because I wasn't raised with my father and didn't know much about my lineage. And I'm a writer of historical fiction, i.e. Irish historical fiction! So perhaps I'm a famous Sheridan!

Hi , this may sound odd, but I have been trying to find my husbands father for a very long time. Eustace( nickname John) born out of wedlock in superior Wisconsin in 1935.was put in StJoseph Orphange at About 6 months old .his mother was also .He took a DNA test which shows he is from ancestry paterner side father side shows Ireland South .he met his mother for one day when was about 20 she still lived in Superior Wi and also his father still did . His mother would not tell him who he was , only she said you look nothing like your father. She died a year later, never left any clues. His mother was adopted in superior wi and stay there all her life.so I am looking into anyone who could be his father who lived and was of Irish descent in superior wi about 1935. Sincerely Louise ,my family is also Irish . R1B male line as is my husband Eustace.

Sheridan is an Anglicized form of the Old Gaelic name O Sirideain. Blah blah blah The truth is that the Sheridan name is alot more ancient than usually thought. I believe that SheriDAN is derived from the ancient people the Tuatha De Dannan, who were one of the first settlers to colonise Ireland arriving on the shores of Connemara after the Formonians and Firbolgs tribes in about 1897BC - 1477BC For more info on the truth about our Sheridan name through history, check out this website below www.princeofdan.org
